A content management system is software that keeps track of all the content on a Web site, much like a local public library stores books and catalogs them. Content can be text, photos, songs, videos, sale items, etc.

Once the content it organized and under the control of the CMS, it can be added to, modified or deleted.   Some of the most notable CMS websites are ones created for online new services such as newspapers.  CMS sites can be only a few pages or up to hundreds of pages.
